Klasicni Americki koncepti

Ajde da imamo temu i o tome.

Evo ja cu spomenuti 1938 Buick Y-Job koji se smatra prvim konceptom u auto industriji. Dizajnirao ga je legendarni Harley Earl i koristio kao svoju licno vozilo sve do ranih 1950ih godina. Y-Job je bio dizajnerska inspiracija za 1940s i vecinu 1950s Buicka. Danas se nalazi u GM muzeju.

Upravo na History kanalu gledam emisiju o koncept automobilima i bas sam se iznenadio kad sam video da je Nomad koncept bio zasnovan na Corvette.

Iste godine GM je predstavio i Corvette fastback (pod Corvette Corvair oznakom).

Tada je GM predstavio 3 specijalne Corvette - fastback (koji nije usao u serijsku proizvodnju), roadster (koji jeste) i Nomad (koji se kasnije prodavao kao sopstveni model).

Nomad je tu prilicno interesantan, sa gotovo nepromenjenim prednjim delom od Corvette, nit je 2 door SW nit je shooting brake...

Ovo je meni mozda najzanimljiviji Americki klasicni koncept - 1956 Chrysler Norseman.

Dizajniran je i uradjen od strane Ghia u Italiji i poslat za Ameriku na Italijanskom brodu SS Andrea Doria. Medjutim, Andrea Doria je potonula na putu nakon sudara tako da Norseman nikada nije predstavljen publici. Cak i dizajneri nikada nisu videli zavrsen projekat.

Sto ti je toliko zanimljiv, zbog dizajna ili zbog price koja ga prati? ;)
Meni je Norseman nista posebno dizajnerski, niti se kasnije pretvorio u neki serijski auto, niti je dizajn nesto specijalan da bi bio zapamcen. Da nije potonuo, kapiram da bi prosao nezapazeno...

Sa jedne strane prica jer je na dnu mora. Ko zna, mozda je jos citav? Kad je onaj Plymouth Belvedere (Miss Belvedere) preziveo 50 godina u vodi valjda moze i ovaj Chrysler.

Sa druge strane, jako mi se dopada dizajnerski. Gledam prednji deo i vidim dizajn auta iz 1957 sa izbacenim farovima. Onda gledam zadnji deo i vidim rep slican onom koji je imao pimp-mobile Cadillac Eldorado iz 1970ih. Svi auti koji mi se izuzetno dopadaju.

Pre nego sto je Mustang postao ono sto jeste, Ford je predstavio dva Mustanga kao koncepte.

Prvi je bio ovaj 1962 godine. U pitanju je bio dvosed sa V4 motorom. Ford je eksperimentisao naslednika originalnog Thunderbirda koji je dobio 4 sedista i postao mnogo veci automobil 1958 godine.

Drugi koncept se pojavio godinu dana kasnije i bio je mnogo slicniji serijskom Mustangu koji je predstavljen 1964.

Oba koncepta su mi strava. Mustang I jer je bio skroz ne ocekivan auto od US proizvodjaca, makar i kao koncept. Mustang I je bio primereniji Lotusu ili Alfi nego FoMoCo.

Pre par godina sam pricao na auto show sa jednim tipom koji veruje da ima jedini preziveli prototip 1971 Boss 302. Tip takodje trenutno restorira 1971 Boss 351 i kupio je ono sto je mislio da je 1971 Mach 1, ali kad je auto stigao imao je jako neobicnu opremu za Mach 1 i jako nizak VIN broj (nesecam se tacno koji). Po opremi i VIN-u tip veruje da je to jedan od testiranih protitipova onoga sto je trebao biti 1971 Boss 302, koji nikad nije ugledao svetlost dana.

Ovo je jedina slika prototipa koja je procurila u javnost.

Neznam, nisam pratio pricu posle.
Mislim da imam cak i jedan primerak Muscle Car magazina u kome je pisano o tom mogucem '71 Boss 302, bile su i slike u njemu.

I ja sam negde citao o Shelby Boss-u, o '71 Shelbyu i slicnim modelima iz zone sumraka ali vecina njih nije prezivela i unistena je cim su projekti otkazani.

Preserving automotive history costs big bucks

When at least two of the Detroit Three were on the verge of death a few years back, one of the tough questions that was asked of Ford, General Motors and Chrysler execs – outside of why execs were still taking private planes to meetings – was why each company maintained huge archives of old production and concept vehicles. GM, for example, had an 1,100-vehicle collection when talk of a federal bailout began.

"Heritage," Greg Wallace, the manager for GM's Heritage Center, told Automotive News. "We've got a great history, and his is how you tell the story." There's a more pragmatic purpose for the collection, though. "It's important for design and research," Wallace said. "There's a reason the new Camaro looks like the 1969 Camaro." On top of the cars, GM's collections contains things as diverse as old advertisements, mechanical blueprints and even paint swatches from classic models, all at the ready for an employee that needs inspiration. In the end, GM did curb the size of its collection. "We had to ask ourselves: Did we really need to keep 60 different Monte Carlos from 2002 to 2006?" Wallace said. Yet even with the downsized collection, $1.8 million is spent each year by the company to maintain an aging fleet of 600 production and concept cars.

GM's collection isn't unusual, either. Chrysler maintained a 300-vehicle archive on the grounds of its headquarters (shown above). Unlike GM's Heritage Collection, though, Chrysler closed its museum in 2012 when attendance fell, selling many of its vehicles.

Japanese brands, meanwhile, have had their own troubles. In Nashville, Nissan maintains a fleet of concepts in the basement of the Lane Museum. It's not open for show. A larger, 280-vehicle archive of the brand's products sits in a more dedicated museum at its Zama, Japan battery factory. While it sees 5,000 visitors per year, guided about by 12 volunteers, the collection is incomplete and the battery operations are threatening to expand into the collection's space.

Other brands have been luckier. In Germany, Porsche, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen all maintain mammoth collections of vehicles in artsy, high-dollar museums. AN reports that Porsche dropped $130 million to build a museum for 80 of its models in 2009. It now draws two-million visitors annually, each paying $11 for entry. Mercedes, meanwhile, has a collection covering its 114 years of car building that has brought in over 5 million visitors.

Nesto zanimljivo o cemu se nije znalo do nedavno.

Lincoln je jos 1973 godine planirao rad na manjem luksuznom autu. Tada je predstavljen ovaj Mark I koncept, koji je uradila Ghia na bazi Evropske Ford Granade. Na zalost, detalji o ovom autu su gotovo nepostojeci.





Posto su se veci Lincolni prodavali odlicno, Ford je odustao od ove ideje. Tek kada je debitovao 1975 Cadillac Seville, Lincoln je poceo rad na manjem autu i 1977 godine je debitovao Versailles. Bio je to prvi Lincoln koji je delio mnoge linije sa jeftinijim Fordom (Ford Granada i Mercury Monarch), sto mnogi spominju kao glavni razlog za neuspeh na trzistu.
